One of the biggest roading projects undertaken in Marlborough in the last 10 years is set to reduce crashes and ensure safer and more efficient journeys for motorists and freight companies.

This contract was for the replacement of the SH1 Dashwood Rail Overbridge and the realignment of 2.11km of SH1S between Blenheim and Seddon. The existing highway will be replaced with a new 1.86km long alignment.

Site works Gill Construction where involved with where;

  • Remove and dispose existing bridge including abutments, batter back slopes to 1:1 from base of rail cutting behind existing abutments
  • Stripping 20,000m3 topsoil off site footprint and relaying on completed batters
  • Bulk Earthworks 80,000m3 Cut/Fill for new road formation and 60,000 Cut/Waste
  • Pavement Construction including 13,000m3 gravels to form new road layout at a depth of 470mm
    Crushing of all gravel material related to the contract from Awatere/Wairau River Sources
